Extended description

Late one winter’s afternoon, Jake discovers an old bureau in his grandmother’s house with a strange handle in the shape of the Lincoln imp. His grandmother tells him that if you knock three times it will summon the devil. Caught between a belief that the world he lives in is dull and a wish that magic of some kind existed, he can’t help himself and strikes three times. Moments later three knocks come in answer on the front door.

When Jake’s grandmother invites the visitor in, he begins to realise that evil can take a human form far more terrible than any creature of superstition or legend. He has brought a devil into his grandmother’s house and only Jake can stop him.
