Short description
MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW : 5 stars: "..a conflict of love and respect..controversial.."
Carol was young, attractive, her skin tasted like vanilla pudding, and she wore a mysterious gold chain that disappeared under her dress that captured Jimmy’s imagination. She was also married. Jimmy was young and innocent. Their lives were taking their normal paths until that fateful September afternooon.
MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW has given it 5 out of 5 stars and writes: ".... Jimmy and Carol are stuck in a conflict of love and respect, and have no idea which will win out... a fine addition to any romance shelf and for anyone who wants a controversial love story."
It was the fall of 1958 in a small Maryland town. I remember the time well. This story didn't happen to me or anyone I knew, but it could have. There were unwritten rules back in that conservative time about how people should behave and for the most part they adhered to them. But below some of those facades I knew that other feelings were stirring.
For Jimmy Trenton his senior year in high school had just begun. 1958 was not particularly eventful for Jimmy until a blue and white 1957 Ford Fairlane drove up beside him one day after school, and then everything changed. Eventually the struggle would begin for both of them--the struggle to put it back the way it was before that fateful September afternoon began...
Excerpt:
It was the final step I would take to cross that line away from Lakewood and into that other reality whose boundaries I had been toying with for so long. All the debates about right, wrong and righteousness were for parents, schoolteachers, and others to debate.
I had put them aside as obstacles I did not wish to deal with, but if I had struggled with them, the result would not have changed what I was about to do. For in this place I could forget who she was. She was just Carol with the green eyes which were glowing with the flickering light of the fireplace reflecting in them.
I stared into those soft glowing eyes as I reached up and gently grasped her straps, never looking at what I was doing, just starring into those beautiful eyes. Slowly I slid the straps down her arms and then released them letting the garment drop to the floor. Still I looked into those eyes, not wanting to leave them.
“Don’t be afraid,” she said ever so lowly. “You can look. No one will stop you.”
I moved my eyes first to her neck and then followed the chain down slowly until I saw what was at the end of it. The mystery was solved. .................She was beautiful................
“I swallowed hard. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“I take it that’s another yes.” She paused. “Do you like me too?”
“You’re beautiful Carol.”
She gently took my right hand and placed it on one of her breasts and slowly moved it around. “Would you like to kiss me?”
“Yes.” I put my arms around her and could smell that sweet intoxicating perfume and then I kissed her, tasting those lips I had wondered about since I had first seen her put lipstick on them. She was delicious. My heart was racing.
