Now in the sixth grade, Tony meets Janice who helps Tony break out of his shell and teaches him how to dance. Tony also is spending more time with Mr. Turner, his elderly friend, who teaches him how to fix things. To complicate his life, Tony finds that he has a crush on Lisa, the prettiest girl in school. Soon Tony’s life really gets complicated when a new kid, Travis, joins his class. Travis has several problems of his own. A foster-child living in a very dysfunctional home, he quickly gets on the wrong side of their teacher; he also has a psychotic bully on his trail.Tony is drawn into Travis’s life and together they slide down the path to despair. A life-changing event causes Tony to realize that things have to change and he and Travis claw their way out of the hole they have dug for themselves. After a final confrontation with the bully, an unexpected turn of events frees them from that problem and it looks like everything will work out, but fate deals them one more blow.
