*Books can be dangerous. The best ones should be labeled, "This could change your life!"*
Gidday! I write inspirational fiction for young adults and children. I also produce educational resources and inspirational posters for teachers, homeschooling families and distance education students. As a teenager I collected and memorized inspirational quotes, and some of my favourite quotes and sayings are woven into my fiction and teacher resources.
My e-fiction is for readers who like thought-provoking stories with a Christian vein. Themes like leadership development run through some of my stories. I address issues like anorexia, homelessness and poverty in some of my stories. And I don't shy away from weaving controversial topics (e.g abstinence) and a Creation world view into my ebooks. Some of my young adult fiction even contains snippets of dialogue between characters about topics like menstruation or involuntary erections. Why? Because teenagers are intrigued... interested... know-it-all... and sometimes bashful about their growing bodies and s-e-x. So it follows that teenage characters and young adult characters in my books should be intrigued, interested, know-it-all and sometimes bashful too.
Some of my other inspirational writing has been published in print format by traditional publishers. There is a place for printed books and there always will be. However these are the days of recession. So it's more important than ever for writers and authors to provide affordable and free quality reading material to their readers - and this can be achieved through ebooks.
I previously managed a Christian bookshop in Australia - and I still recall what types of Christian books customers were chasing. Often as I chatted with a customer I knew that the type of Christian books they were chasing weren't in the shop. They weren't even available overseas. Books like these were too risky for a traditional Christian publisher to print for a variety of reasons. Yet customers were wanting to buy these types of books for themselves, their children or their grandchildren.
The other thing that struck me was the prohibitive cost of Christian books. When I managed the shop, printed Christian books with quality content were mega-expensive. Even though we sold our books below recommended retail price, I knew that many people had to settle for buying something on sale rather than what they wanted. And seeing a customer leaving empty handed when I knew they wanted to buy a particular book really irked me...
These days I don't manage a Christian bookshop, but as a Christian parent and homeschool mum I remain discriminating. Before I pay good money for a fiction book, I like to know what the moral boundaries are in it. And before I buy an educational resource, I like to kinda get a feel for where the the author is spiritually.
The fiction ebooks I've made available through Smashwords to date are free - so you won't lose out financially if you find them "objectionable". Nevertheless if you'd like to know more about the content of the Rebelutionaries titles before you download any of the ebooks, visit my "occasional-blog" and read more about the facts and content which inspired each fiction ebook.
My home-schooling dayz are drawing to a close, so in the (not-to-distant) future, I'll be putting up my favourite educational resources for teachers and homeschoolers here on Smashwords. Some of these teacher resources have been circulating for years; others are revised worksheets which have never been distributed. Life is hectic at present but I also hope to get some of my puzzles, motivational posters, art-and-craft resources and short stories up in the next few years. Check out my occasional blog for samples and snippets which will eventually be available here on Smashwords. In the meantime I've posted links to some of my favourite homeschooling sites to keep you going.
