Born and raised in Rhondda, Roy Lewis attended Bristol, Exeter and Durham Universities and was called to the Bar at Inner Temple. During the 50s he played rugby for Treorchy, Bristol University and Exeter Chiefs.
After teaching Law for ten years he was appointed One of Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools and later became Principal of Wigan College of Technology.
He is the author of more than sixty crime novels, including series' involving an archaeologist ( Arnold Landon ) and a Tyneside solicitor ( Eric Ward ). He has also written a series of police procedurals ( the Inspector Crow series ) and a history of the Victorian Bar.
Roy Lewis now lives in North Shields on Tyneside where he has set a number of his novels, but also spends time at La Rochelle in France and Javea in southeast Spain.
