I really enjoyed reading this book! I wasn't really sure of what to expect at first and whether I'd fully enjoy it, but I loved it! I haven’t really read a lot of dragon fantasy in the past, save for The Hobbit and Eragon series, so it was all a bit new to me in that sense. But I enjoyed the bits about the dragons and felt that there was a nice balance overall. It was easy to read and I didn’t feel as if I had to force myself through any parts because there was always something happening in the story plot.
I loved the way the relationships and the plot developed. I thought it was very well written and the characters had several dimensions to them. The characters were all very well described and I thought the dialogue between characters was very good as well, especially the humorous comments from Kraz as he interrupted Roark every now and then, it definitely added a bit of fun to the book. I loved the romance between Roark and Nira, I’m always a bit weary of reading romances because you never know if the author is good at developing romances, but the author gave so many levels to their relationship. There was some sexually explicit content, but I didn’t feel as if it was too much.
My only complaint would be that it was too short! I felt that a lot more could have been added to give the story slightly more depth and more background knowledge to better immerse oneself into the setting. I feel as if the author had a lot more to give to the story which just wasn’t in the book, in general just more details could have been added and other events. For being a short book, I do think it was really good for the amount of character details and background story there was, but I do think the book has amazing potential to be longer – and if it was longer, I think a lot of the events could be extended and more scenes could be added in between.
Overall though, I really liked it and thought it was a good read, and I would definitely recommend the book to anyone who’s looking for a nice enjoyable light read!
