Short description

Stonechild's Enigma is the third novel in a series of seven. Russell Stonechild, a young Cree fur trapper and trader becomes a regimental scout in the Gall Light Armoured. Uneducated, but a language prodigy, his skills are sharpened during efforts to slow the Nazi advance through Belgium as war heats up in the first year of declared conflict in WW 2.

Extended description

Russell rushes to rejoin his regiment, the Gall Light Armoured, after recovering from a near fatal wound. He returns to his regiment after a crash course in secret codes, linguistics, and the German language from a female brain trust assembled by the Earl of Gall. Now, in addition to his normal duties of soldier and scout, he has agreed to gather intelligence for this group of female cryptanalysts Russell calls McAlpin's Amazons.

During the months of phoney war prior to May, 1940, Russell and a fellow soldier enter Belgium in the role of American tourists. They meet ordinary citizens unprepared for war and encounter American Bund members working for the Nazis.

Finally Russell, the Gall Light Armoured and the British Expeditionary Force meet the full force of the Nazi Blitzkrieg.
