Super Hot Romantic Suspense!

Remi Whitedeer is a former cop who has a vested interest in seeing law and order come to his tribe. When he meets the Alyssa Morgan, a police woman who works for the off reservation police, he’s attracted to her but cautious. Before long, they both are assigned to work on a task force to determine how best to set up law enforcement within the tribe.

Remi and Alyssa burn up the pages with their hot chemistry. Alyssa fights her attraction to Remi knowing that she shouldn’t get personally involved with the case, which she did on her last undercover assignment. Remi struggles with his desire for Alyssa knowing that he cannot marry a white woman; his family and tribe would never accept her. As they search for amicable solutions to the law enforcement issues on the reservation, trouble grows as drug-related crime infiltrates the tribe. Soon Alyssa’s life is in danger, and Remi has to fight to save her.

The romance is hot and the thriller aspect is insurmountable. I literally could not put it down and stayed up all night just to finish it. If you love romantic suspense, you should definitely buy this book!

So very impressed by Kristine Cayne. Only her second book, yet it's as if she's been writing a lifetime. Book 2 in the Deadly Vices series does not disappoint, and trust me, I put book one way at the top. This book is written from the perspective of three different characters, Alyssa, Remi and Chaz. I love that in a book, I love to read the feelings and what's going on in each of the main characters heads. In book 2, Alyssa, an SQ officer, needs to work with Remi, a hot, sexy native from the reserve to put together a police force.  Ofcourse nothing is easy, not only is the sexual chemistry off the charts with these two, but then there's Chaz. He's Remis cousin, but what he doesn't know is Chaz is evil.  Not only is he growing marijuana on the reserve, he's going to sell it to the "whites" for guns in his quest to do his "guardian" duty and return to the old laws of the land. The book is full of hot, sexy, romantic scenes. But there is plenty of suspense, drama, action, mystery, a little of just about everything. Highly recommend, excellent book.

In addition to being a wonderful romance story, this book offers a unique look at the life on an American Indian reservation. The political issues in this book are common in many populations. A reservation just seems to be a microcosm of our world. We get a closer look at prejudice, in one of its many forms, and how that can impact relationships.

In addition, the men in this story are hot. Not only the hero, but also his friends and family who help him save his family and the girl. The political intrigue and setting help set this book apart from others in the genre. And having a good story to go with the heat helped push this book to 4 out of 5 clouds.

Deadly Addiction, written by Kristine Cayne, is an outstanding novel earning a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Before reading Cayne’s Deadly Vices series, I had never read an actual romantic thriller/mystery. I had read plenty of romances with a slight plot twist to keep things interesting and keep the novel from revolving around love, sex, and “soul mates”. Never have I read romance novels written with the talent and skill that Cayne possesses.

First off, I need to say that the characters are brilliant. Cayne gives the opportunity to get to know the characters through many different sets of eyes, as the story is told through many different viewpoints. Typically, this isn’t something I am a fan of; however, she pulls it off without creating confusion.

Each character is unique and has many different layers, creating believable individuals who stir the most basic of human emotions. Rémi Whitedeer and Alyssa Morgan were by far my favorite characters. I loved them individually – their struggles and inner-demons, as well as their triumphs and compassion. I also love the way the two played off each other.

The way that Cayne told each character’s back-story a little bit at a time, rather than all at once in the beginning of the novel or upon introduction was a refreshing change. It left a slight air of mystery about the characters and helped them to feel more life-like.

The final aspect of Deadly Addiction that I want to mention is, honestly, just how addicting this novel is! Much like it’s predecessor (which I was thrilled to find Addiction wasn’t a literal sequel to Obsession), Addiction is a fast paced, romance and action packed novel; however, not to the point of being over-whelming. It’s attention grabbing and once it has your attention it doesn’t let go until the final pages. While the action and suspense is definitely there and there are your standard lulls in the adrenaline and the romance also helps to break up the thrill seeking, adrenaline-rushing. These lulls help the novel to find that perfect medium between “nail-biting suspense/mystery” and “sappy sex-driven romance” novel. What you find in the end, is sheer perfection and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to make it until the next novel comes out.

Deadly Addiction has everything you could want in a great book – suspense, romance, an oh so sexy alpha male, a kick-ass female lead…and so much more! I'm not even quite sure where to start with this because I just loved everything about this book.

The characters were written exceptionally well. The author has a way of getting inside of the heads of her characters that is nothing short of amazing. I loved the relationship between Alyssa and Remi from their very first meeting. The flirting was fun, the chemistry was hot, and the sexual tension was done in a way that left you always on the edge waiting for what was going to happen next!

Alyssa is a cop trying to salvage her career after questionable tactics while working undercover. She is sent to the Iroquois reserve on an "easy" assignment to help set up a group of native officers to police the reservation. Alyssa is trying to put her past behind her but is finding out that it is not such an easy task. Remi is half white/half Indian. He has struggled his whole life to try to fit in and has had to overcome many hardships from his childhood. He fights for what he knows is right while at the same time fighting for freedom for his family and his race. The crazy thing about this story is that everyone was doing what they thought was the right thing for the greater good. Even Chaz was doing what he thought was best to help his people.

There was so much conflict and complexity to the story. The humor laced through was great, and the sex scenes were hot!! Deadly Addictions is one of those books where after you've read a few chapters you're hitting your forehead and asking yourself why the hell you hadn't picked it up sooner!
