Short description

In "Where were you?" the paths of several strangers will collide, and become forever interwoven. Hearts will be both mended, and broken, as complex relationships are formed.

Extended description

This is a book of excerpts from my novel, Where were you. It also contains monologues and three short stories.

The short stories, Two Green Chairs, Fist and Oxytocin, are tales of family, and the highs and lows of relationships. The monologues featured in this book are from the minds of two main characters in Just Beneath the Surface.

In the novel Where were you, Christian Shane is a heavy hearted young man, who is slowly becoming unglued. His home life is anything but orthodox; riddled with drugs, and an ominous feeling that what is left of his world will soon come crashing down upon him. In an instance, Christian’s life becomes more shrouded in confusion than ever before...he is face to face with his birth parents.

Although Christian is nothing that Nadia expected, he is more beautiful than she ever imagined. In her eyes, he is simply breathtaking; scars and all. But getting close to Christian is far from simple. Her son wants nothing more than to be left to his own devices. .. (Read more)

As I read Ms. Ramsey's excerpts of characters, I had chills run down my neck and on down my arms. The vivid details of struggles, sadness, heartache, abuse.... Flowed freely from her pen. I felt like a fly trapped inside a room and spying on someone's most personal events. Events they wouldn't want the world to know. These excerpts are so personal and intimate, it makes me want to find out more. The short story of 'My Mother's Shadow' was an intense look into mental illness, as a woman often gave into her encouraging shadow. Other questions I had. (Why did Nora take in children when she clearly didn't love them? Why was Christian's mother the way she was? Why did Kendall feel she should love an abusive man? And many more.) Very detailed and intense. I would recommend reading Ms. Ramsey's books.

Where Were You- is a study in life returning to its source. Though the story seems as if it is about complete strangers, it is apparent each in some way or another needs or is a part of the other. There are a secrets which binds them all.
Beyond the drugs, physical, and mental abuse Christian proves to be the dependable person his family needs and the catalyst to destroy the secrets.
I liked the way the author pulled all of the lives together so really one story was told. That story is of abuse, silence, and secrecy which spreads and should be stopped at the onset.
