Along with the search for the causes of congregational decline the study examines what, if any, effect this has on pastoral attrition. Pastors seem to be more disillusioned about ministry than most denominational leaders realize. A great majority of pastors have contemplated leaving the ministry for some other occupation. This is one of the most difficult decisions a pastor will ever make. Is it possible to create a climate within a denomination where pastoral attrition becomes much rarer than is presently experienced? The issues seem to go deeper than just a pastor losing heart. There is a much more obvious answer but those answers are found within the area some describe as the non-discussables in the political and structural climate of the church.
