About Robynn Tolbert

Born in Kansas and born again at age six, Robynn wrote stories for her own amusement for the next thirty years. When a job as a foster care caseworker became too stressful and a career with a floral trade magazine became too comfortable, her thoughts turned to writing an actual book. Success led to success, and she completed a second novel and started her third. Robynn lives in Kansas with a clowder of cats, a patient dog and a garden.

An engaging adventure that takes a lot of fantasy tropes and turns them on their heads. The heroine gets a bit annoying in the middle, to the point where you just want to tell her off. Luckily there's another character there to do that for you. There are multiple deceptions and misdirections in this story, but it all comes together in a satisfying ending. I'm ready for the sequel.

This is an excellent story. I started it by downloading the sample section. The very beginning seemed just a little bit slow, but it was able to stir my interest and keep me reading. By the time I ended the sample section I needed to see what would happen next. Ms. Tolbert creates an interesting world and introduces it layer by layer. The pace of the action is steady and the introduction of secondary characters held my interest and curiosity. I wanted to know what was going to happen. There is a nice level of humor mixed into the story as well as tragedy.
I think the best compliment to a book is that it kept me turning the pages. A very good book.
