A satire set in the overcrowded Washington, DC of AD 2080, THE BILLIONTH AMERICAN focuses on Burgess Huxley, a young employee at the Federal Bureau of the Census, and the chaotic events in his life leading up to the massive July 4th “Billionth American Celebration” ironically honoring the illegitimate birth of that citizen. The hero discovers a government Census cover-up that triggers a series of wild adventures.

An Ivy League graduate, Huxley suffers from a congenital deformity,a rare condition producing an extra thin torso and limbs. He wears a special prosthetic “Thick Suit’ to look normal, and is treated at the Human Genome Institute in the nation’s capitol (now Washtown,DC-- District of Civility) where he meets and falls in love with a beautiful Clinical Geneticist named Dr. Silvia Glasnost MD.

At work, Burgess uncovers the deliberate government falsification of census numbers and this leads to conflict with his suspicious boss. Census data has been obliterated, and.. Census data has been obliterated, and the populace led to believe that the United States was profoundly different in the past. While visiting relatives in Maine, Burgess’s grandfather gives him banned copies of magazines from the distant 1950s and 60s. One of them contains a shocking article about the true Census numbers of 1960.

Some other background information for AD 2080: overpopulation has become acute, and scientific advances have come almost to a standstill for lack of funding. People drive electric “Buzzmobile 30” automobiles manufactured by Walmart (the worlds’ largest automaker along with Ford), and the Yen (USY) is the currency of the land. Mount Rushmore has been dynamited for political reasons, and Santa Claus has been replaced by the “Happy Winter Man.” Millions of people have been fleeing (or “Entrance Reversing” as the government terms it) because of overpopulation and societal breakdown. On Capitol Hill, Senator Clayton Grauhund is pushing to make China the 52nd State, etc.

THE BILLIONTH AMERICAN takes a humorous look at a nonsensical future that is growing nearer every day.
