Short description

Part of doing well in school is being able to apply good study skills. Learning how to study, take tests and write great reports are all important to a successful school career. In this ebook we'll take a look at ways teachers and parents can help students develop good study skills, be better test takers, and use research skills to enhance learning.

Extended description

The term “study skills” is generally an umbrella for many behaviors students can develop that help to make them proficient at their studies.

Time management skills, comprehension strategies, listening skills, memory techniques and test taking skills are several areas that contribute to success in school. This ebook takes a look at each of those areas and provides concrete, hands-on ways for students to develop and improve in each one - and be a better student in the process.

In addition, one complete chapter is devoted to teaching report writing - step by step from brainstorming an idea to the finished product. Also included are over 15 of my best classroom-tested learning games and activities for review and developing study skills.

This book is packed with resources! I have been a classroom teacher for sixteen years, but I still learned some new "tricks" from Study Skills and Learning Games. Directions for all the games and activities are clear and easy to follow, and contain variations so they can be adapted to a variety of situations and grade levels. Some of the techniques and materials may need to be adapted if your school is high-tech, but savvy teachers will easily be able to adapt the activity to whatever materials and resources are currently in use at their schools. I recommend this book if you are looking for fun and easy ways to help your students gain the skills they need to succeed in school.
