This short story by Chris Quarembo has the elements for a pleasurable read: interesting local color references (disclosure: I'm a Philadelphia native), a lively plot and pace that pull the reader along, and street-wise dialogue that rings true. The protagonist, too, is a bit unusual, a working-class Italian-American woman who leaves the life of a lawyer to become a gumshoe. Ms. Quarembo manages to tell a compelling story in a way that draws the reader into the lives of the characters. I look forward to reading the author's other work.

I like the cover, too, the Philly skyline.
Now you really have to work on your novel, now that you have a short story under your belt.
