Short description

I never saw myself joining the army. It wasn't even something I'd put on the back burner as a possibility in case my life goals didn't pan out. But after earning BA and MA degrees, I found myself, age 27, hopelessly in debt and working my old part-time job. Worse? I was living in my parent's basement on the spare bed. So I embarked on a crazy adventure... and it all stared in army basic training!

Extended description

Fact #7: Drill sergeants have an expressive way with words, especially female drill sergeants. Drill Sergeant Stewart, with a slight southern twang: “You God-damn lazy motherfuckers quit so God-damn easy that I ain’t gonna give a shit when you fucking fail that final PT test.”

Inevitably she’d zero in on one person in particular. “Especially you, first name Jack, last name Ass.”

I’d usually just stand and stare at her. She never failed to paralyze me with her uncanny ability to produce an endless string of expletives. Really, that takes some kind of talent.

Heck, it took me ten minutes just to reproduce that one line.
