About Glen Downey

Dr. Glen Downey is an award-winning children's author, graphic novelist, literary critic, and educator from Oakville, Ontario. He specializes in works that foster literacy development in children and adolescents, specifically reluctant readers. His experience as an educator has included stops at a variety of secondary and postsecondary institutions, including Appleby College, the University of British Columbia, and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Downey holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Victoria, where he specialized in the history and theory of games in literature and culture. He was the series editor of Graphic Poetry (Rubicon/Scholastic), winner of the 2010 Texty Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association and the 2011 Teachers' Choice Award for Children's Books from Learning Magazine. Other series for which Dr. Downey has written include Boldprint, Timeline, The 10, Boldprint Graphic Novels, and Interface. His works have been distributed by Scholastic, Oxford, Pearson, Brightpoint, and Althouse Press, among others. He also serves as a regular reviewer for the graphic novel division of Publishers Weekly, and was a member of the jury for the PW Comics World Critics' Poll that selected the top graphic novels for 2011.
