Extended description

The world didn’t end with a bang, didn’t go out in a ball of fire and fury. Nor did it end in ice, but in some strange way, ice was the end; or maybe it was the beginning of something more.

Bethany is stunned and horrified when she finds herself suddenly alone in a world that was alive only moments before. Terrified, she flees into the streets of her town, looking for answers, and desperate to reach her family. Panicked, she is nearly captured by the monsters hunting her until Cade steps in to rescue her. Dark and distant, most people in school are wary of Cade, yet oddly fascinated by him. They had been close as children, but it has been years since Bethany has had any real contact with Cade. Inexplicably drawn to his dark presence, Bethany finds herself torn between her growing desire for Cade, and her boyfriend, Bret’s, unwavering love. Loved it! A very good read. I believe it is sort of a cross between "Tomorrow when the war began" and "War of the worlds". I liked the gory detail of the blood sucking aliens (not vampires) as they slaughter people, the action, romance and internal conflict of the main character as she fights her personal demons and where her heart lies. Loved how it ended!

What can I say? This is one of the best young adult sci-fi stories I have read. The blend of mystery, suspense, romance, adventure and sci-fi is so deliciously offered in this book. I couldn't put it down and I had to immediately buy the next book. Great story-telling, amazing characters and out of this world ride! No dull moment. Five stars all the way!

I really liked this book. Aliens take over and "freeze" all but a few people. Among them is Bethany who has a boyfriend but is drawn to Cade without understanding why. The book focuses on the survivor's journey to escape the aliens and also on Bethany trying to discover why she is drawn to Cade. The book ends with a real cliffhanger and the 2nd book is just as good. Looking forward to book 3 :)
