Worthing Wordsmiths is a creative writing group which meets every Wednesday at St Paul's Centre in Worthing, West Sussex.
The group was formed in 2002 and originally met in Chatsworth Road and were known as The Chatsworth Forum. The founder members were Kate Buller, Robin Prieber and Tony Ward.
The Chatsworth Forum moved to Worthing Homes Resource Centre in 2003. Robin Prieber became the tutor in 2006 and Pamelia (Pammy) Long joined him as co-tutor in 2007. Sue Ruffell became back-up co-tutor in 2010.
In 2007 we held a competition to find a new name. The Resourceful Pens was suggested by Pammy Long but Lorretta Read-Golding came up with the winner, Worthing Wordsmiths.
When we needed to find a new home in October 2009, we were fortunate enough to be offered a room at St Paul’s Centre shortly after it was opened. Since then, we have expanded from 10 to 18 members, ranging in age from 11 to 85 years.
Sadly, in January 2011, Robin passed away. Pammy took over as main tutor. It had always been Robin’s dream to publish a book of the group’s work. Pammy, together with the rest of the group, fulfilled that dream in May 2011 when the Worthing Wordsmith’s book of Poetry and Short Stories was published.
