Short description

An m/m retelling of a fairy tale in which the princess is a prince and the setting is a fantasy version of mediaeval Africa.

Extended description

What if the origins of the story we know as ‘Snow White’ lay in a fairytale version of Great Zimbabwe? What if the wicked queen saw not a young princess but a grown prince in her mirror? What if the rest of the story involved another handsome prince from a different African culture? Legends twist and turn, depending on where they are told, but good triumphs over evil and a kiss is still a kiss wherever they are heard. A short story for lovers of m/m romance.

There is much to like about this medieval fairy tale, from the rich characterisations and lovingly described setting that brings Africa alive to the reader, to the romantic story of the young lovers, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Silk’s journey, the people he meets and his love for his prince make this story a delight to read and remember.

This was an absolute delight. The story is set in a rich, beautiful world, which is gorgeously evoked by the writing, but it’s the romance that ultimately carried the day for me - I found myself really caring about these characters. A deeply satisfying story on many levels, and definitely one to re-read.
