His arm tightened around her and the smoke blew towards them. She cringed into his side, leaning away from the charred smell that would osmose through her clothing and linger there for days, the smell of burning wood bringing her mind back again to this, their first date, the one she had planned. This smell always from now on reminding her of him. He was beautiful in the flickering yellow light of the fire, his face golden, beautiful, beautiful. In the middle of a sentence his mouth was on hers and she had forgotten how good this was. She pressed back into him, tasting his mouth greedily, the wine and the smoke and the salt in the ocean air. It was a full minute before they separated, gasping, breathless, and now that this thin barrier between them had been breached, the force was insatiable that drew them again and again to kiss each other, to fall back onto the blanket and curl their limbs around each other, to learn each other.
