I have been following Rian's works for a while and was thrilled when I found out she had written this. The story was amazing as were the characters. I have always admired the interpersonal relations in Rian's works, but Simulacrum had new depths.

i've been waiting for this to come out ever since rian said she was working on it and it was totally worth the wait. i read it in one sitting. shaun and lore are both really fun characters but lore is my favorite hands down. the other supporting characters are cool too but they don't compare to the protagonists. definitely saw the pulp detective novel and dark scifi influence in it. i kept picturing scenes from blade runner while i was reading it. there were a couple parts in the mystery plot that were a little predictable but maybe that's because i read a lot of mysteries and thrillers. that's the only reason i'm not giving it five stars though. all the relationships in the book were really authentic and that was kind of the point of the whole book. oh and the sex scenes were super hot.
