This was first book by this author and I enjoyed it. Enough so that I have read the first of the "Chocolate" books and plan to read the 2nd.
Sally's style slowly drew me in...then kept me there.

Allison Prescott has rejoined the workforce as a television news reporter after a messy divorce left her with almost nothing except a rundown house, a twelve year old daughter who was used to having only the best that life could offer, and a plastic surgeon ex-husband who keeps taking her back to court to wage custody battles. Allison needs more money and more security in order to hold her life together and retain custody of her child. When she and her cameraman, Rick, arrive at their latest assignment, the murder scene of a homeless man, Allison becomes fascinated with one of the witnesses--a homeless man who doesn’t quite fit the role.
Thus begins Allison’s determination to uncover whatever secrets this man, “Bill” is hiding from her and the rest of the world. Is he a famous rock star, or someone in the government witness protection program? Could he be the killer? No matter what his secret, Allison vows to uncover it and produce her ‘big’ story that will boost her career.
The problem is that she needs Bill’s cooperation, and getting that isn’t easy. To add to the problem, Allison finds she is attracted to this strange man, and he is attracted to her. But before they can deal with their own heady emotions they must discover who is committing these murders, for the sake of both their careers.
Writer Sally Berneathy blends suspense and romance in this fairly-light mystery "Undercover Secrets". The main characters are interesting and likable and the story flows well from one scene to another. I admit that I figured out the murderer very near the beginning of the story, so the end came as no surprise to me, but perhaps that was just a lucky guess on my part.
A book worth reading, for sure.
