As with "A Magical History" I would love to give this 5 stars. However, since this was - like the first book in the series - spoiled for me by a much too sudden ending, I feel I can only give it 4. The thing is, cliff-hanger endings work for soap operas on TV, and they are a fantastic tool to use for the ends of chapters, but when it comes to novels they aren't a good idea - and this includes ones that are part of a series. Books should have proper endings, be they short stories, novels (short or long, part of a series or not) or whatever). Yes, if the book is part of a series then it should leave you wanting more, but it should also leave you feeling satisfied that the immediate issue is resolved and - for now - life will be going on as normal and all is well in the character(s) world. Were it not for the unsatisfactory endings I would be more than happy to give a 5 star rating. As it is, however, I can not.

An excellent follow up to A Magical History. I've really loved meeting Lily, her family, and the other Wiccan families of Salem. Luther is a wonderful villain. The world that Emma Hart has created is both real and enchanted, with plenty of shadows and perilous events. In some ways it brings to mind Stephen King's Carrie, the Twilight books and even Harry Potter. I hope she plans on exploring this world, with its rich potential, even further.
