Most of the whipped cream off my chest, Sebastian stepped back once again, and I bit back another groan. He returned to his workspace and set the crème brulee on the counter, his sugar at one hand and kitchen torch at the other. “Best part,” he said happily, sprinkling sugar over the tops.

I felt the remaining whipped cream warming against my skin. My god, this was going to make a mess soon. “Sebastian, can you…?” I nodded downwards to the remnants of the cream.

“You can wait.”

Bastard, I would repay him for this. I got closer as he picked up the torch to form the brulee’s crust.

He picked up one ramekin at a time, rotating it to distribute the molten sugar. Then, when he was finished, he looked at me: “Hold out your hands.”

“You’re going to torch me too?”

“Yes.”

My heart thudded. I hadn’t meant it, but… I really liked the danger of the suggestion. I held out my hands.

“Like I said, gentle.” His voice was soft as he lowered the kitchen torch to the back of my wrists. “Sometimes, I think, what someone’s not doing to you can drive you as crazy as what they are.”
