Old Blood - A Novella (Experiment in Terror #5.5)

Rated 4.75/5 based on 13 reviews
Old Blood is not a stand-alone novella and it is recommended you read books #1-5 in the Experiment in Terror Series before embarking on this tale.

From her harrowing introduction in Darkhouse, the spectre known as “Creepy Clown Lady” has been a constant fixture in Perry Palomino’s life. But beyond the horrid makeup and piercing stare lies Pippa, a woman just like everyone else.

"Creepy Clown Lady"! Her life was so sad, but her story helps explain the connetion between Perry and Dex so it is worth reading.

Firstly, when I start reading this novella I was sort of sceptical since it was not written in Perry or Dex point of view. But when I got into it I loved it. Writing was poetical, mesmerizing and some new info about Dex and Perry were revealed. All the EIT fans, this is a must read for us!!!

Pippa's story was sad, dramatic and full of sacrificies in order to achieve her dreams and trying to find her happiness. She lived in differend period under different circumstances but her life had similar path than Perry's. But I hope Perry's will have different ending...

This was an awesome book and it was great getting to know Pippa a little better. I hope there are many more books to come. I truly don't get to read things that make me not want to put the book down. Good job and keep up the writing!!!

This is the story of the Creepy Clown Lady, later known as Pippa. I really can't tell you much about this novella without spoiling it, so I will just say, this helps brings several pieces together. You find out how Pippa is connected to both Dex and Perry. And how tragic her life was.

I did find myself feeling sorry for her and getting angry at her simultaneously. I suppose it is the whole "Hind sight is 20/20" but knowing some of the things I did, and some of the things she did, she continuously made terrible choices. But like I have said before, I don't always have to agree with characters decisions, as long as they are in character. So, she makes decisions that ultimately lead to her death. That is not a spoiler, you should know going into this she is dead. If you don't know that you should not read this yet.

While this story does answer several questions, it leaves me with new ones; Did Dex's mom see ghosts? What happened to his dad/mom/brother? Did Dex and Perry actually listen to this story on the tapes? Did they hear it together? What were their reactions?

I also want to know what happened to Dex between The Lying Season and On Demon Wings. Hopefully we get to find out in The Dex Files this summer. And maybe Miss Halle will be nice to us and release it early, like she did with Old Blood. :-)

OH! And it includes the first two chapters of Into The Hollows. GOOD LORD I cannot wait for that book. Get over yourselves and get together already!!! Ok, better now.

This novella gets 4 stars. I love getting back story. :-)

For me, this was a highly anticipated side novella in the Experiment of Terror series. Up until now, we've really only had info from Perry's perspective, so it was refreshing to get a glimpse of what makes Dex the way he is, and some history behind Perry's own family.

This definitely is not a stand alone book. I am eagerly awaiting the next installments.

This is the tale of Pippa, Perry's grandmother, story. Before I get to into this review I needed to warn you if you haven't read the first 4 books in the series then do it before reading this review because I going to be spilling some beads.
Ok I warned you.
Old Blood is a side tale giving the life story of Pippa. Also known as the crazy clown lady who we learned in the last book is Perry's grandmother. For some reason I thought she was some how related to Dex. After getting a glimpse at Pippa through out the series I was eager to know more about her. Pippa is not even close to an angel, but she was one strong woman.
This also given more insight into Perry's mother and why she is the way she is. Although I'm not sure that excuses her and while I'm still not crazy about her I can understand where she comes from and why she acts the way she does. While I enjoyed learning about Perry's family history and the insight it gives to Dex's background. I felt this series is taking an outlandish turn with the veil and how they get the physic abilities. Personally I enjoyed the books much more when it was it was Dex and Perry ghost hunting. I didn't mind the personal drama because it helped define the characters. Yes I'm still interested in seeing where this goes but I could do without the multiple dimensions thing.

Loved it! The book is excellent by itself, but the background information it provides on the other characters in the series is priceless.

In the newest novella in her Experiment in terror series, Ms. Halle brings us the story of a tortured woman, Perry's grandmother Pippa. We learn how her life was destroyed by her gift, the ability to see through the Thin Veil to the creatures that lurk on the Otherside. The reader will follow Pippa on her journey through life and ultimately her death to discover why it is she follows Dex and Perry, why she is always watching out for them and why she is always warning them...trying to help them to avoid her own fate.
Full of heartbreak and betrayal, Pippa's story doesn't disappoint!
