Short description

This book lays out what it means to be a Christian today. The Christian life runs counter to many modern worldviews, but the eternal rewards are stupendous. It’s time to stop sitting on that fence!

Extended description

An atheist colleague of mine was deeply entrenched in evolution as the explanation of life. He used to argue that if God was there, he ought to show himself or communicate audibly. In the absence of such evidence he concluded God was simply a figment of the human imagination. Many humanists reason that unless God gives them a concrete sign they will not believe he exists. This appears logical until you start to delve deeper. In using this line of argument humanists are puffing up their own importance and reducing God to their own size. If God created everything from the tiniest atom to the vast Universe, he must be amazingly big, fantastically clever, supremely authoritative and infinitely awesome. Why would such an immense God take any notice of a whinging little person saying, ‘Give me a sign or I won’t believe in you’? God reserves the right to hide himself! Actually, though, there are a number of signposts pointing towards him.

I shouldn't be surprised at the twisting and turning that believers have to undertake to make their faith real to themselves, but I am. Oh the logical knots they twist themselves into! One of the favoured ways is to say that if God saved everyone from death then it would defeat God's plan for his imperfect toys. Cummings takes this position. It is really indefensible and as usual, the only logic is to quote the Bible as proof. This is like quoting Bram Stoker as proof of the existence of Count Dracula. The writing is competent, the logic flawed.
