A lot of insight into a character's mind with just a few short pages. Why didn't you expand this? Would have made an interesting novel...

Great ending! The story was marred by some typos and stylistic errors. Dutch farmers don't use the term 'asshole' (how American) and in 1944 or whenever this is set the German's didn't use the term 'hostiles'. (How George Bush!). Writers of historical fiction need to know their period and write in an appropriate style and use appropriate words.
