Of course, her mother never comes right out and says so, but neither does she hide her disappointment. Mom likes being in control. Of everything. Polly loves her mother dearly and realizes she’s acting out of love and concern. Still, the woman is driving her crazy.

Although Polly repeatedly tell her mother she don’t need a man in her life to feel complete, she is lonely. But she keeps that bombshell to herself. She doesn't want her mother signing her up for online dating services or taking out personal ads on her behalf. In truth, Polly is scared to death of waking up one day to find she's middle-aged and still sharing her bed with only her dreams. She wants a husband and kids, but she fears that either she’ll have to settle for someone she doesn't love or wind up all alone. She isn't sure which would be worse.

Because Polly loves her family, she begrudgingly goes along with their matchmaking efforts, especially since she hasn't been very successful in her own quest for a suitable life-partner. However, thanks to her mother and her uncles, she soon finds herself thrust into a series of situations with one loser after another. Her list of “Reasons to Call it Quits After a First Date” grows at an alarming rate.
