About Lorraine McLeod

Lorraine McLeod has been writing for many years, first taking creative writing classes at Liverpool University. Through these classes she was inspired to write her first two novels and was featured in two anthologies. Later, she worked with the artist Gino d'Artali and was published with him in Bordersenses in 2001.

Lorraine was invited to read on Radio Merseyside, Liverpool, England and had to put writing on hold while studying for her degree. Since moving to Canada in 2004, Lorraine has revised her novels, started new projects and takes part in a monthly open microphone event. Her short story 'Parasite' won the July 2010 Story Slam event which was sponsored that month by On Spec Magazine.

Lorraine's day job involves working on the web but at home she finds time for writing and photography. Her next creative pursuit will be painting.

Review by: David Blake on June 06, 2013 :
A good story that takes a common human fear, that of wasps, and amplifies it somewhat. The story is told well; the jumps of scene/viewpoint are a little jarring in such a short story, but probably necessary as I can't really think of a better way the full horror of the situation could have been brought across.
Vhiper's fate is not nice!

I don't think the story description does this piece justice. The story was better than I expected. The descriptions were handled nicely. Although I didn't fear for the protagonist initially, the shift in point of view delivered what was needed, and I shuddered when the protagonist finally encountered the wasps. I would have liked the story better if the shift in POV had been handled more consistently, however.
