Extended description

Prince Dashan has been used to getting things his own way, with servants to cater to his every whim. As the crown prince, it is essential that he is protected and he is followed everywhere by his bodyguard, Ryland. Dashan can't even head to a tavern with his friends without Ryland somehow turning up and spoiling his fun.

Dashan disguises himself as a peasant one night and sneaks off to the brothel that he's heard rumours about - a brothel that caters for men who like men. The prince finds it difficult to admit to himself what his true desires are - he yearns to submit his will to someone else. And Ryland is just the man to show him what that truly means.

The is a fairly short read about an aloof prince seeking a reversal of position. It encompasses a little bit of light S&M/bondage, but is really pretty vanilla. There is a lot of emphasis on the safe word and the Dom frequently gives the Sub a chance to call it quits. While this was nice, kept the story from feeling dark despite the subject matter, I thought it also distracted from the story. It passed a pleasant half hour or so though.

As an avid reader, I enjoy sinking my teeth into a long novel that will take me days to read, so I was a bit wary when I saw "The Prince's Guard" under short stories. In the past, I have encountered short pieces that felt like they were lacking, as if the author had given up on the development of the characters and story. However, Annette Gisby has pulled me flawlessly into the world of the Prince and his Guard.

Her characters are so intense and real that the second you finish the story, you're in utter shock and denial that the characters are not actually standing in front of you, her writing style is absolutely lovely for she has a way of making words flow along the pages, and she knows how to entice the readers from the very beginning (of course having a half naked man on the cover does help).

My fingers are itching to give a play-by-play of why I loved this story, but I don't want to give anything away! I can, however, definitely say that by the end, my heart was yearning for Dashan and Ryland's happiness, but at the same time I was quite satisfied with the outcome (no pun intended).
