"I'm really sorry I'm late," Amber said, but stopped the moment he raised his hand for silence.

"You remember what I've told you," he said, his voice dangerously calm. "On your knees, girl."

"Yes, sir," Amber said. She saw him grab a riding crop and looked away as she sank to her knees on the dusty barn floor. She knew what was coming and couldn't stand the look of disappointment on his face. She heard his heavy footsteps as he came closer, his gaze burning into her as she kneeled on before him.
