Sam (a pastoral) is a story about the existence of love and the possibility of forgiveness, no matter how wronged we may feel, or what wrongs we have done to others. Sam explores the loveless method of using animals and people (bully and hurt them until they give up and do what you want) versus the more humane path (get them on your side, and they'll do anything for you).
Sam tells the story of a troubled family and a kid's yearning for love. Ruthie’s father is a domineering loudmouth; her mother is timid and helpless; her younger sister is hypersensitive and shy.
But Sam is always Sam, the impossibly ugly blue-eyed bombshell of a horse who serves Ruthie as a mentor, a parent, a place of refuge and the personification of majesty and love.
Ruthie- defiant, sassy-mouthed and hot-tempered- learns Sam's lessons in wisdom, usually the hard way. But his big heart and faithfulness help her to do a near-impossible task: to see her abusive father as a suffering struggling human being ..
