I enjoyed this installment of the series, but for the first time I felt that it could have been longer, with a few things more fleshed out.
I believe that a good story doesn't have any length requirement - it takes as many words as it needs, no more or less - but this one needed more. I would have liked to read more, for example, about Sam's feelings towards some of the other, newer characters that she encounters. I'm finding my quibbles hard to articulate without spoilers...
But I will certainly be reading the next book!

The blurb told of a betrayal that would rock Sam's world. As a prolific
reader (4 - 5 books a week) and from experience with the previous novels
in the series, I thought that I knew what it would be before I began
reading. I was right, the who and the how, and thought Sam handled the
situation very well and went on with her case. Then the last two pages
of the book slammed into me like the proverbial freight train. The
angry tears flowed, I threw the iPad to the floor (oops!) and flew out
of the house for a long walk! Thank you, J.R. Rain, for your ability to
make me feel that your characters are so real that I would experience
such sorrow and fear for Sam.

Loved it. Excellent addition to the Vampire for Hire series. It is not really a stand alone book. It is much better to have read some of the other books in the series first.
