Short description

Raped by her mom's boyfriend, Isabel finds peace far from home. Will her newfound family drag her back to destruction?

Extended description

For years, eighteen-year old Isabela Fuentes worked two jobs to support her promiscuous, alcoholic mother, but after the latest boyfriend rapes her at knife point, Isabela throws her few possessions into her car and drives until she reaches Lakeside, Montana, twenty-five hundred miles from New York City’s suffocating smog. As her bodily scars fade, she takes solace in the nature around her and records it in her sketch pad. It isn't until she begins sketching scenes from her rape that she learn to cope with what happened. But leaving her mother behind to fend for herself might have been a mistake; and when two strangers appear on her doorstep claiming to be her dead grandparents, they threaten the fragile childhood memories. Before she can rebuild her life, Isabela must decide to either let her past go or unite it with the woman she’s become.

I enjoyed this book. It was well-written with both sweet romantic episodes contrasting with heart-wrenching drama, covering all the difficult issues within the story. The characters are superbly drawn with enough complexity to maintain interest, and involve the allow the reader to speculate on the causes behind the events as they unfold. There are enough layers to the story to keep the story interesting through to the conclusion. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for future novellas by this promising young author.

I really enjoyed this story & loved ALL the characters. April has a way of completely pulling you into the book. Five stars!!! Her descriptions of people and places were fantastic. I love when a book takes you from one place to another as the story is pieced together. You were always left wanting to see what was going to unfold. Even at the end, I wanted more. Her writing style is excellent, I would read another book by her for sure. I never give an undeserving 5. Like EVERY book there are some typos but the story has you sucked in so well - you don't care! I'd never count it against this great writing! Nice job!
