Stepping into the Light - Poems from the Darkness

Rated 5.00/5 based on 5 reviews
A book of poems written by people suffering with mental health illnesses. Showcasing their feelings as they battle with both their illness and the stigma that is attached to mental health. The poetry is used as a form of expression as one of the contributors said "a poem can often convey more in a few lines than long case study."

About Garry Williams

33 year old man suffering with high intensity depression and anxiety. Decided one day to start blogging about my battle in the hope of helping others feel like they were not alone in dealing with these problems and that it is ok to talk about depression.
Suddenly I am writing books on depression and hopefully helping to show how much having depression can affect people.

I was told about this book of poetry by a friend who also purchased it. There are some great efforts in here from people determined not the let their mental health illnesses hold them back. Kudos to everyone involved in this process and the author for making it happen. Even if you are not a great fan of poetry you will love reading this book!

Being a part of something like this was so eye-opening and inspiring.Depressed moose as done well to gather poems for this book.Rather than being a self-help book, it makes a real difference for people to be able to read things through the eyes of a sufferer, and I think it is really informative and eye-opening for families and friends of sufferers. And it raises money for such a great charity. What could be better!TPW

As someone who suffers from depression I related to a lot of the contributions, and I suppose in some way reading poetry like this makes me feel less alone knowing that others are going through similar feelings to myself.

I would also strongly recommend this book to family and friends of those with mental illness. It is very difficult at times trying to explain what you are going through, and many people simply do not understand what it feels like to suffer from such illness. Poems have the ability to succinctly reflect a persons feelings, where longer prose or verbal communication fail.

Thank you Garry for putting in the time and effort to make this project a reality.

This book is full of lots of different types of poems. They tell the stories of many people suffering from mental health conditions, and may be able to help people understand the emotions involved. This book is just a small insight into the minds of mental illness sufferers, but it helps understanding which is difficult to come by. The moose has created 2 great books - both to be highly recommended. And with 50% of profits going to MIND (a fantastic mental health charity) there is even more reason to buy this book. Thanks moose!!

This book of poetry delves into the MINDs of those suffering mental illness's - possibly a little deeper than you'll find comfortable to delve. Apart from 50% proceeds going to MIND, another good reason to buy this book is because it's a lovely little read. It's a good way to learn how mental illnesses affect us all - one in four the statistics say, or is it four in four? Whether you are a sufferer, a therapist or just normal this book serves as a great guide to understanding people (with mental illnesses.) Please buy it & please support The Moose & MIND. Cheers.
