There's a lot to like about this book. First of all the characters, including spunky Ellie and her stubborn brother Chuck and the rest of the family, and other colorful (and unforgettable) town residents like Uncle Noah. There is the meticulous attention to the specific details of time and place which bring this small Ohio town to life. There are the layers of plot, involving old rivalries and feuds. By the end of the book I had grown quite fond of the town and the characters. I especially enjoyed the scenes set in the town's hospital where Ellie is a nurse. A book to read slowly and savor.
