Just when I thought everything that could be said about Obama has been said… Dr. Fick takes us to greater psychological depths and dimensions. This book reveals what has been missing in all of the other books on President Obama! Although the book is short -- IT IS DENSE with expert insight and information.
After just a few pages I realized that Dr. Fick is skilled in identifying, evaluating, and explaining the psychological forces that command Obama’s thoughts, plans, and actions, as a private citizen and as the President of the United States.
Dr. Fick combines a psychological profile from Obama’s own factual words and actions and his own experience as a psychotherapist, tracing the genesis of Obama’s repeated losses and grief, to the effects of the Obama Presidency… and as Dr. Fick guides the reader through the psychological maze, I now understand fully, why the United States is in the most perilous of times in our nation’s history. If you are looking for a “feel good” book - this is not it. If you are looking for a factual book that will raise your level of awareness and knowledge of what drives people to do what they do, THIS IS IT!!
As just one of many examples from this book that I found very disturbing, Dr. Fick exposes and dissects President Obama’s spiritual experiences as follows: “[as] Kristof wrote, ‘Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent in a remark that sounds delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks). Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.” Memory is not only encoded in picture form, it is also embedded through all the senses including hearing. And, even more importantly, Obama’s statement reveals that the effect of repeatedly hearing and responding to the call to prayer was encoded on a deep emotional level. This is mentioned not as commentary on Obama’s religious leanings but to point out that what we experience in our youth and our interpretation or perception of those experiences becomes a part of us.” This was taken from just half way through the book on page 24, and I wish that I could quote the rest of this page and comment on it for you, because the progression for Obama beyond this experience turned Obama’s life into utter identity confusion, insecurity, and tremendous resentment and feelings of abandonment.
I was also surprised at the astute parallels that Dr. Fick exposed between President Obama and President Clinton’s childhoods and how each individual took a different path of how they coped with these similar experiences and how they led a nation.
Another thing that might be of interest for considering this book, Dr. Fick explains that he has more than 30 years of experience in clinical and forensic psychology. He explains in the book that there are psychological tools (tests, etc) that psychotherapists use to evaluate clients. This one, I will not give away… all I will say is he put Obama to the test and explains his results to us, the average person. Very shocking! He doesn’t stop there… (the rest you’ll have to read for yourself, or I’ll ruin the ending for you).
I apologize if I sound like I’m “selling” this book. I must say that I have read many other books on Obama, but this book is unique. I found each page to be packed with information and insight. I just wish that EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN (and non-citizen) would read this BEFORE THEY VOTE! I can only HOPE that the mainstream media would read this book… it would certainly CHANGE the way they report the facts and in-turn, influence the FORWARD progress of our nation!
