This story is great. I have now read it twice. Once electronically, and once through the paper book. I like romance, and the relationship between Liz and Luke is intense. This mutual attraction is understandable given their backgrounds and her internal dialogue and emotional state. She deeply needs someone to care for her, and he is drawn to her in so many ways. Their struggle in this book is made even more difficult when something believable happens in the plot that makes it impossible for them to be together. Figuring out this problem becomes paramount to Liz.
Even more interesting than the great story of their relationship are the hereditary twists and curses that make this book unique. I like how Larsen portrays this new side to our world, with relatively few info dumps and without using a canned old story (like werewolves or vampires). He develops a good reason for the main information sharing from Luke to Liz so it doesn't detract from the plot. Most Fantasy books I've read have to have a lot of information dumping throughout the book so readers can understand the rules and workings of this different world. The bad guys in this book are really unlikeable, but not just stock either. Their curse is downright cool while at the same time terribly dark. It snowballs to a head for an awesome finish, and with the second book published, you won't have to wait to see what happens next.
I was an English Major with a creative writing emphasis, so I have to admit that there are a few grammar or stylistic issues latent in this work, but many of them are things that a copy editor would need to find. Having written a novel myself, I know how difficult it can be to find all the errors that make it into a book. I enjoyed the dialogue, and while it isn't always perfect, Larsen, at least, isn't telling everything. I'm glad I didn't stop reading a good story because of a couple of errors. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I just finished reading book two, and it doesn't disappoint either.

This book has some promise - there are a few plot points ripped straight from Twilight but this heroine, Elizabeth Scott, is actually more appealing than Bella Swan by far. She seems like a real girl with a real life and real problems, and not a transparent Mary Sue figure. I was intrigued by the Bennett brothers regardless of romance, and the supernatural world here also has the potential to be fresh and interesting.

Unfortunately the execution's just not very good. The awful grammar, wooden dialogue with character voices that are inconsistent at best, and incorrect word choices (ancestor =/= descendant, perspective =/= prospective!) seemed to get worse and worse as the book wore on, almost as if the author had simply decided to give up proofreading. I got as far as the huge, awkward mid-book Info Dump about Luke's "Bloodline" backstory before I gave up. If I find out the author's done a massive reedit of the whole novel -- including lots of cuts, since the whole thing is a bit slow, repetitive, and far too long -- I'll give it another try. Otherwise, this is a DNF for me.

Loved it! I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in one night. It kept me interested and wanting to know more. It was suspenseful, adventurous, and romantic. I love the characters especially the main characters Elizabeth and Luke

I'm not normally a huge fan of anything with too much romance in it, and I almost gave this one four stars because of the mushyness, but in the end I had to go with five stars because of the last few chapters. They were absolutely sick! You can tell that most of the book is geared towards women, but I still thought it was a good read.

This one didn't dissappoint! The thing I liked most was the Protagonist. I hate it when female characters are portrayed as weak, and Liz definately wasn't. She is strong but believable. The story was good too. I finished it in two days.

All I can say is... Wow! That was pretty incredible. I heard about this book from a friend, who wouldn't shut up about it, so I skeptically bought it. Now I can see why she wanted me to read it so bad. They need to make a movie or something of this one!

I can't believe how awesome this book was! To be honest, after the second chapter, I thought to myself "this is too much like Twilight", but then as I kept reading, I realized it was a completely unique story. I usually have a knack for knowing when surprises are coming in a book or movie, but this one had some unexpected twists. I don't want to give away too much, because it would ruin a great story, but this is one you have to read! No seriously, this book is a must read. If you don't have a few bucks, tell one of your friends to buy it and borrow their kindle. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Interesting story keeps you turning page after page...just when you think you have things figured out, something new and unexpected is thrown at you. Great suspense. Very visual. Easy to get lost in this world with the characters. I am anxious for a sequel!

Enjoyable book with some great twists and turns. Clean language for the whole family, with enough adventure to keep any preteen to adult hooked. What happens to Liz and Luke next is sure to leave everyone wondering.

I have to admit this story surprised me. I loved the prologue, but then when it jumped ahead to the main girl and the story began to develop, I started worrying it would be too mushy. There were a few parts that were borderline, and obviously the story will appeal more to women than men, but I have to say the last half of the book more than saved it for me. I can't say too much, because I don't want to ruin it, but the ending was absolutely amazing!

This book is gripping! Now that school's started again, I have little time for "outside" reading, but I never wanted to put this down till I finished it! I Love fast reading books with a GREAT story. Sure hope the sequel comes out soon!

I don’t even know where to begin. This book is SOOO awesome! I really liked that the main character seemed real, and tells it like it is. Her relationship with Leuken had me sighing on more than one occasion, and the action scenes in the book are well done. There’s just enough to keep it interesting, but not so much that it distracts from the story.

I also liked the fresh approach this book took. When it seems like every other book I see lately is about vampires, it’s nice to have something new. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Twilight and some other vampire books, but I think the vampire thing is a little overdone lately. If you are looking for a modern fantasy book with excitement, romance, jealousy, humor, action and unexpected turns that make your heart leap, then look no further.

I thought that this book was great. The story is great, the characters are great, and I especially liked that the author did a good job of balancing the right amount of excitement with keeping it appropriate for children. I’m not saying young children, because there is some violence, but certainly teenagers on up.

I really liked this book. The relationship aspect was interesting, but it was the action scenes, especially in the last half of the book, that hooked me. This is definitely a must read!

While I mostly agree with Jon Glenn’s review, I have to disagree on the Twilight comparison. I thought that the love story in this book was just as compelling, but I didn’t think that either was “over the top”. What I liked about this book was how the author created a new fantastic element, devoid of vampires or werewolves, with a story that literally pulls you into it. The characters are likable, other than the villains, and the little brother Alex reminds me of the little brother I wished I’d had. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was that it kept me up reading too late. It’s definitely the book’s fault. :)

I’m not normally into the whole paranormal romance thing. I have always been more of an epic fantasy type of guy, but I have to say this book was good. The whole romance aspect wasn’t bad, because it wasn’t over the top like Twilight, and I liked that it had a little more action. If your girlfriend is making you read a book with her, this one is definitely palatable.

I cannot believe how good this book was! I heard about it from a friend, and usually like to read for a few hours on the weekends. The beginning had me intrigued, but it was the ending that absolutely amazed me. I read till two in the morning to finish it, and I don’t even regret the missed sleep.

As a mom, I don't have a lot of time, so I enjoy good books that are a quick read. This book definitely kept me turning pages and I can't wait for the sequel.

This book is amazing!

I only downloaded the sample of this book at first because I loved the cover(I've always had a thing for moons). After reading the first couple chapters though, I had to finish it. There's not any Vampires or Werewolves in it, but the story is gripping.
