The story of a very unusual girl with a usual purpose. First, and the most important thing, I enjoyed the novel very much. I met many likable and interesting characters and traveled with them through the book's world. the story is well-written, I had no problem with knowing who says what in the book (kindest regards to the reviewer who reviewed wrong book I guess;)). There were some things that were unique, I have never seen them in any book I have read (haven't read so many but still) like walking in "shadow".

Now why my rating is missing a star.. The plot wasn't perfect, actually somewhat predictable (apart from one or two moments/turning points that were very surprising and amazing) and I got the impression that most things went too smooth. As for the powers, I know that she is the main protagonist she seemed a lot overpowered to me. The fire and shadow things were great and necessary, but the rest (although nice and handy) seemed to be off.

All in all,
even if it isn't the best of a kind, the book is very enjoyable and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to most of fantasy lovers.

P.S. What is the matter with the author reviewing her own book in a way that seems "a bit" vein? (@ librarything.com) Seriously, there really is a thick line between encouraging readers to buy a book and evaluating it with the highest possible scores themselves, like all the other authors are doing it wrong. Please, have some modesty and let the critics and readers evaluate themselves.

P.P.S. Can't wait for the next part of the series:)

A fantastically creative imagination!!!!! This book kept me entranced to the very end. I was disappointed when it ended. Not to hurry the author, but when is the next book coming out?!!!! Fantasy reads have never interested me much, but after this book I am fast becoming a fan. Can't wait to have the hard back as part of my collection. Brenda Lee Diaz

this book is hands down one of the best books i have read by any new author in a long time. her development of characters is well done and she emotionally grabs you and thrusts you into the hearts of her heroine & her companions. she engages the reader well enveloping you in a well developed fantastical world.
I highly recommend this book to any who love fantasy.

The characters are wonderfully written and have real personalities. I was able to relate to the lives and trials of each character. The storyline was exciting and new, not the same old world and the same old villains that fantasy writers have fallen into writing about over the past few years.

If you want something new and exciting. A book that you just can't put down. Buy The Obsidian Phoenix. It's a keeper. I can't wait to purchase it off the shelves and have it in my collection. I'm excited to see more from this author. A. M. Jandia knows her audience.
