Chevalier has never been told no. For thousands of years he’s sat on the Equites Council, ruling body of his heku faction, and for thousands of years his every order has been followed immediately and without question.

One of the most important rules of the heku, is that no one is to feed from unwilling donors. Following a tip that a young mortal woman is being brutally attacked by his own kind, he seeks her out and immediately begins to experience unnatural feelings for the woman.

Emily, a beautiful rancher from Montana, has spent her entire life being violently attacked by beings she assumed were vampires. It isn’t until she meets Chevalier that she learns of her startling family history, a history that immediately throws her into the volatile world of the heku.

I give it a 1 star because I can't give it anything less. This was painful in its predictability and almost plagiaristic glee of the Twilight, which also deserves one star. For my full review, http://www.viewfromvalhalla.com/2012/02/13/podcast-review-119-heku/

the usual conflicted vampire. the book was ok. i read the whole thing but it a bit tedious. i could not figure out why pretty much everyone on the planet was after this one woman. perhaps the next book will move along a bit more smoothly. it passed a relaxing afternoon and evening.

This series of books on the Heku was quiet entertaining, a little predictable in its plots, overall a relaxing read.

This book came higly recommended. What I didn't expect was to read it all in 1 night, I couldn't put it down. I love the chemistry between characters and how it's not the typical love-at-first-sight relationship. I'd switch places with Emily in a heartbeat, and would run after Kyle! Can't wait to start the 2nd one.

I randomly picked this book from the list on my kindle and was nicely suprised when I loved the story. I couldn't stop reading. I was so happy to realize I already had the next two stories on my Kindle. I"m currently reading the 5th book and just keep going.

I truly enjoyed this book. The writing was well done and flowed well. I liked the paranormal romance that was more realistic than most. I loved the Heku/vampire background and factions. I am reading the second in book and will be purchasing the rest of the series. I definitely recommend this series to all.

Heku is a great series of books, it shows the chaos that can ensue when you insert one fiery headstrong red headed woman in the middle of a militaristic race of immortals who are used to following their way of doing things.

I am really happy with the way the author dealt with all the different rules that are normally associated with vampires, she created her own race, the Heku. By creating her own race it gave the author the freedom to make them how I feel a vampire should. The Heku are not your normal vampires, they are not allergic to garlic or sunlight, and if you tried to ward one of with a cross he would probably just stab you with it and then have himself a nice snack. These are a new breed that are strong impossing characters, who are lightning fast and extremely intelligent. It is also kind of fun to see the types of toys they can buy when money is no object. The best part about the Heku is they don't glimmer or pout!

The characters in this story have very good chemistry together, they may not always get along but you can tell that care very deeply about each other. The story reads very well and the dialog flows nicely and is very natural. I am really enjoying reading this series because there is a little everything in it, suspense, drama, romance, and enough humor to make it not feel to heavy. Once you start reading it you will not want to put it down.

Pretty good read. Too much romance for me on the first book but the others had a lot more action and got more into the heku race.

I hesitated to try another vampire book. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. He has a completely unique view and excellent chemistry between characters. After I forced my hubby to read it, he liked it too. The website lists seven books in the series and I can't wait to get the others.
