The world this book is set in is wildly implausible as a world that was ever ours, and as an alternate world, it is too roughly sketched to support the drama of the romance. The right bones for a fantasy story are here the real-world concerns – fears about facing rejection from one’s parents, pressure to behave in certain ways, and worry that your love life won’t turn out the way you hope – and the fantasy setting that removes us from the pain of encountering these situations in the real world making them safe to deal with; but the story doesn’t quite have enough flesh to it to deliver. A greater richness of detail would really make this story.

I really enjoyed this book! The main characters were endearing and took surprising emotional turns. As the characters grew and changed, I was rooting for them and the love they could share.
