On the Shelf – A Modern Fairytale

"Falling in love doesn’t happen to a timetable. Sometimes it takes years. Sometimes it takes… a lot less."

When a lonely little girl 'kidnaps' her handsome father so that they can spend New Year together on the Orient Express, widower Ben McAdam finds himself in the company of an Englishwoman who throws him for six. Because it doesn't take Ben long to figure out that Jane Hayes is the first woman in a decade or more that he has fallen for. Only problem is, Jane has placed herself firmly on the shelf, and – having been hurt in love one too many times – has no intention of ever coming down.

On the Shelf is a modern fairytale about the healing power of love, and the wonder of new beginnings.

On the Shelf is a short story of 5000 words / 20 pages.

This was a very sweet story. It definitely lived up to its title of "A Modern Fairytale." Characterization and plot development could have used a little more work, but it was an entertaining read. Overall it was good.
