I don’t usually read short stories or novellas as I prefer to really lose myself in a story and its characters for a long spell. But I was surprised that even though “Sugar and Spice” by Tawny Weber was a quicker read than I normally prefer, I found myself fully immersed in the storyline and thought the setting and the characters were nicely defined. It is well written and there is great chemistry between the two main characters, Dedra Hansen and her sexy boss Paul Chastain. I liked the element of magic, even though I wish that would have played a more prominent role and been better explained. But overall I really liked this novella and see fans of romance most definitely devouring it!

I read this book in one sitting! It is on the shorter side (it’s a novella), but it was the perfect length for me in my busy day. There wasn’t a whole lot of outside conflict, and the action was mostly limited to the hero/heroine finally succumbing to their desires, despite the obstacles around them. My only complaint is that I wasn’t sure exactly what purpose the women in the bakery really served, and in a book this short it seems that every little thing should be directly related to the plot, and just to me their roles and conversations felt a bit unnecessary. But this was a great book and I’ll be sure to look for more from this author soon! Happy to see she has quite the extensive backlist!

Sugar and Spice was a bit too predictable for my tastes. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with being predictable on some level, in fact many readers take a great deal of comfort in it, and to some extent they expect it. But to me I felt like I was reading something I’d read before, and the most interesting parts that could have made the story more unique were kept to a minimum. Personally, I like my stories to take some unexpected risks somewhere to catch me off guard or surprise me even a little bit on some level, and unfortunately this story don’t have any of that which for me is necessary to make it stand out from a crowded crowd. It’s not bad, but not mind-blowing. A safe, predictable romance that will appeal to those types of readers.

Sexy, engaging and romantic, “Sugar and Spice: A Karma Café Novella is the first book I’ve read by Tawny Weber, but it was so enjoyable I might just have to get her whole collection if the rest are anything like this one! I found the characters to be likable and engaging, and I really liked this author’s writing style. It definitely left me wanting more and was the perfect length to read during the afternoon. Highly recommend!

Dedra Hansen is the plain-jane assistant to the dashing Paul Chastain. She lusts after him, but he is getting ready to marry someone else. However, his marriage is more for business purposes and not for real love. But Dedra can’t stand the thought of him being with the woman she despises, so after she secretly tenders her resignation to his brother, she devises a plan for seduction with the help of her mysterious and quirky friend from the Karma Café. What follows is an interesting encounter that is sure to titillate and please! Easy to read, and quick paced with a satisfying conclusion, “Sugar and Spice” should be in the library of every romance lover’s collection.

I flew through this charming story while I was waiting for my son’s soccer practice, and I loved every delicious word! It had just the right amount of heat, tension, conflict, and sexy moments. Even though the idea of a mousy secretary lusting after her hot boss is a bit on the cliché side (as the heroine herself even admits), the delivery of the story still felt fresh and exciting, even for a romance junkie such as myself. Delightful, and I’ll love to read more in this series for sure!

I loved this book! The heroine Dedra was relatable and nice, and the hero, Paul seemed really sexy. They had great chemistry and the scenes with them were HOT! I only wish this short novella was much longer, because I felt like I wanted to keep reading much more!! Recommend for fans of romantic erotica.

Short but oh so sweet. “Sugar and Spice” by Tawny Weber gets its name from a line of shoes that the H/H work on, and it is doubly fitting is this sweet and hot tale of desire and reward. Paul Chastain is the powerful owner of a shoe company who is in a sticky situation, and his secretary Dedra has her own secret desires when it comes to their relationship. A fast-paced story that I read in one sitting and really enjoyed!

I call these types of books my “guilty pleasure readings” because they are so much fun!I love the chemistry between Paul and Dedra, and really felt like I was part of their relationship. I only wish it was longer! Seriously, I feel like a whole book could be made from these characters and their backstory and conflict and future. But this was a delicious slice of their lives, and I’m happy I read it! Recommended for mature readers only as it is on the steamy side.

For me this novella was just ok…it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t amazing either. On the plus side, I liked the author’s ‘voice’ and felt a certain authenticity and relatable-ness to the storyline and the characters. It didn’t feel fake or contrived. The scenes between Dedra and Paul were compelling and steamy. On the sort of negative, I didn’t like how the heroine referred to other women who enjoyed sex as “sluts” (I don’t like slut-shaming in my romance/erotica books), especially when the same behavior from the man is seen as an appealing turn-on. I do wish certain parts of the story would have been expanded or explained better, especially the role of the “witches” downstairs. Recommended for a light, quick romantic read, but don’t expect anything truly deep or earth-shattering.
