Short description
“He was such a nice and easy-going guy with so few hang-ups, that I caught myself wondering how long it might take him to become financially strong enough to marry me. Maybe all he needed was a bit of help and some motivation, in other words he needed a women in his life, someone like me... The valley became dark and very quiet, like a change of guard for nature.
“The valley became dark and very quiet, like a change of guard for nature. The few day animals that still made noises while settling in for the night, have now drifted off to sleep and the African bush belonged to those that make their living under the cover of darkness. The eerie call of the dikkop sounds like a ghostly echo through the valley, as it first calls 'vhiew-vhiew-vhiew' on a rising tone and then the 'vhiew-vhiew-vhiew' on a descending tone. While the call of the dikkop seemed to stir the depths of my subconscious the almost frog-like 'purrrup' of the African scops owl, followed a short while later by another 'purrrup' seems to soothe my soul. These sounds of the night took me back to my childhood on the farm and how I would lie safely in my bed and listen to the sounds drifting in through my window on the wings of the cool night air. Good description of the area south of the Blouberg. I really enjoyed the atmosphere around the camp fire and how the animal noises change during the course of the evening. I find the detailed sexual encounters embarrassing and I think it could be a much better story without those intimate details.
I am still curious about the conclusion of the story. Because of the explicit sex only 4 stars.
