What happens when a young Newfoundland fisherman emigrates to the U.S., marries into a prominent New Bedford fishing family, and then wins a national lottery worth nine figures? Victor and Fabulia Janes decide that they're going to try and do right by their new-found wealth. They both realize that a life of leisure is not for them so they take a double gamble. Victor builds a prototype factory trawler equipped to fish in thousands of feet of water for Royal Red Shrimp, which has never been attempted before. Fabulia starts a non-profit organization aiming to help children and the elderly but ends up focusing on battered women. After a few interesting hiccups both projects get rolling. Victor succeeds in catching the shrimp but he also dredges up a pile of manganese nodules. The Vietnamese portion of Victor's crew is elated by these nodules because most all of them contain petrified shark teeth at their core.
