About Michael Carter

I'm a writer of mainly horror, science-fiction and fantasy stories, and live with my wife and three cats in County Durham, England. When I'm not being a full-time registered carer, I enjoy writing, reading, watching films and TV, drinking good beer with good friends, and collecting rejection letters.

In the past I have had stories published in small press magazines including, "The Colored Lens", "Cthulhu Cultus", "Dark Legacy", "Dread", "Pop Fiction", "The Domain", "The Ancient Track", "Blue Silver Dementia"; e-zines and websites, "Frightnet", "Nightscapes", "Dark Portal", "Magnetic Fiction" "alt.ghoststories.", "Writers Dungeon", and "Raise The Dead".

After a ten year break, and thanks to friends Jonathan Strickland and Robert Wilkins, and my wife, I am seriously writing again, trying to catch up on a boat-load of new ideas, and sending them out into the world. My newest success is my short science fiction story 'Cuts', which appeared in 'The Colored Lens', Winter 2014 Issue.

My many influences include H.P.Lovecraft, Stephen King, Clark Ashton Smith, Thomas Ligotti, Angela Carter, Sue Townsend and many more.

Of the stories here, UNCONTAINABLE, DREEK MIDWINTER and EYE CHECK are the most recently written, while HUNTING COMP, OBLIVIOUS and CONS go back to the mid 1990's.

Thanks to all who have downloaded, read or reviewed my stories. Like most writers [some don't give a hoot], any feedback is very important to me, and I appreciate every review.

I laughed so much when I read this, along with saying Urgh! in various places
I think I would of avoided Mr George in the opticians too! My only complaint would be it would be nice to hear more of Mr George's adventures. (Though not as Jonathan Strickland warns, a visit to the doctors!)

Simple and fun, with a squirmy style and an oddly compelling air. One other said the twist was predictable, but I didn't see it coming myself -- maybe I'm just not very bright...

Predictable twist, but a nice light horror jaunt.

Well written little story - a small chapter in this guy's "life" that is easy to read and has a hint of dark humour to it. Nice one.

I'm a little disappointed it didn't turn out to be a shoggoth but this was a quick, enjoyable little read. I'll definitely be checking out more of the author's work.

Fun little comedy story, featuring plenty of gore. Who says ya can't go on living after yer find yourself in a less than a horizontal state of being. Not me, and certainly not Mr.George.

That said I'm just glad that he did'nt end up going to the doctors with the doc having to take hold of something and asking Mr.George to cough, then looking down into his open hand and finding that another piece of Mr.George had dropped off......NOT NICE!
