As a young girl, Gina Rowell, was very shy and felt comfortable being in the shadows of others. She did more listening than talking which was a benefit to her because she learned to understand people more. Instead of sharing her thoughts, she would write them in a diary. Her diary was where she could share her inner most thoughts and not be judge whether they made sense or not.
After Gina became a mother, she realized that she couldn't teach her children to let their voices be heard, if she didn't set the example. She continued to listen but gradually added her two cents. Through these interactions, Gina learned that she wanted more for her four children and herself.
In 2007, when the opportunity presented itself, through opposition, Gina decided to take her family and relocate. She left Michigan, the only place she'd known, to embark on a journey to Georgia.
During that first year, Gina and her family suffered some setbacks. She silenced the inner voices of failure with her writings. She made an account of everything that they experienced. She didn't want to forget the trials that would someday make them stronger.
"The Homeless Itinerary; A day in the life of a homeless family", the first installment of a three part series, is Gina's very first short story publication. She is no longer in the shadows and lets her voice be heard because it makes sense to her.
