Do not let the subdued cover fool you. The contents are nothing like the cover. White’s beautiful descriptions turn the mundane into scenes of resplendence. I have to be honest and say I was very taken with the almost florid, but with a purpose writing. The short stories in this compilation more or less followed the theme of loss and grief. Shawn White writes with hard learned emotion and experience. My favorite story ended up being “Andore and Illiat” (which is really the second part to The “Eyes of Illiat”)The first tale is great if you have ever had a broken heart and may even bring comfort on a dark and stormy night. (Insert maniacal laugh here)If you prefer the even more macabre, then “You Bury Me” might be more to your Zombie lover’s liking. In comparing this author’s writing style I was hard pressed to come up with another novelist that was well known and similar, so I had to delve in to my shelves of poetry which I find oddly appropriate. If the two poems “The Road Not Taken “by Robert Frost and “I carry your heart with me “by E. E. Cummings had a child the result would be “Tales from The Bear and Lion” by Shawn White.

These stories were wonderful. Even if some were sad. I got this book a while back and havent had a chance yet to rate it. This is a damn good fantasy collection. I hope he makes another collection like this. Bravo.
