Ulcerative Colitis from the Bottom Up: A memoir of home treatment with fecal bacteriotherapy

Rated 5.00/5 based on 1 reviews
Fecal bacteriotherapy is an accepted treatment for C. diff. infection but has yet to become widely offered for UC. Given the chronic and debilitating nature of the disease, and the long-term ineffectiveness of available prescription options, we had little to lose in trying this treatment in the only way we could make it readily available - at home. Reviews

Review by: Ingrid Mulligan on Nov. 05, 2012 :
This is a well written account of one family’s experience with at-home human probiotic infusion therapy. The nature of the treatment makes this a tough, almost taboo subject, but the author writes about it frankly and directly. You really get a sense of what desperate ends this family was at with the daughter’s worsening UC, and why they ultimately decided to try this unconventional at-home treatment. It’s clear they’ve experienced a degree of success that has made their efforts worthwhile. The author describes their process and results, and also provides a frank assessment of what and what not to expect. There’s a detailed how-to section here that should be a great help to UC sufferers curious about how an at-home treatment might be administered. Overall, a helpful and honest account, as well as an entertaining read.
