This is a fascinating new concept in ebook publishing. Others have imbedded hyperlinks in their books, but Dan Poynter has taken it to a new level. This is a true multimedia learning experience centered around aviation, cleverly disguised as a novel about a young boy growing up as an aviator in the late 1930’s.
Want to know more about the planes of the era? There are links to articles and videos. Want to learn more about the Hindenburg crash? There are links for that. The links are wide ranging, from wiki articles to National Geographic videos and everything in between.
Although the book seems targeted to young readers, everyone can learn from this model.
Following Poynter’s example, teachers can build interesting and exciting lesson plans that will engage students at many levels. Parents will get clues on how to motivate their children to adapt their most mundane activities into channels for their creativity.
Inspiring authors will get insights into how to take advantage of the internet to create a new type of ebook that will engage their readers and keep them coming back for more.
Get this book, not just for the read, but for the examples and insights that it provides.

A fun read for those interested in aviation and history! This book follows a smart and inventive boy through his adventures as an aviator and how he plays a part in the history of the USA around the time of WWII. You learn about some very interesting tidbits of history (German POWs on Alabama farm camps? Didn't know that!) as you read the fun story. Links to videos, sounds, and articles are throughout for more information and background. I sure would like to meet this boy, what a character!
There are a few typos here and there and some of the images should really be a little better quality, but all in all it's an enjoyable read.

If you are interested in flying, this book is packed with historical information you will enjoy. It is a ficitonalized account of one exceptional character, Rusty Martin, whose adventures highlight an exciting time in aviation history. The story often reads more like nonfiction. But the facts are so engaging that it kept my interest. A quick read with lots of great links to more information.

I read this book in one sitting. I did not go to all of the web sites or all of the videos, that will take place in my reading of the book a second time. The book is easy to read, simple to understand and the history background makes it exceptional for one who loves to fly. The ability to view the videos along with the story adds up to a very good book. I must admit to being more than biased regarding this novel because of my love for flying.
